Congratulations if you have a new addition to the family!
And good luck if your kids have just hit their teenage years – you have a few tough years ahead! 🙂
In these situations, your present house might now be getting a bit small for your needs – you may be thinking about something bigger. But with tight mortgage affordability criteria and the loss of income and additional expenses that come with parenthood, that can be a real challenge.
One way to do it is by moving to a less-desirable area or out of the town/village/area where you now live.
But we may be able to offer a very attractive alternative if you currently have a large garden with excess land. We could give you a substantial lump sum – enough to build that extension, or to take the next step up the housing ladder to a larger house.
Alternatively, we increasingly find that grandparents want to help at this stage, especially since selling some of their excess garden may solve two problems in one. Many houses built before the 1970s have very large plots. Your parents may be starting to find their garden a bit much to cope with, but want to stay where they have always lived. Some find the perfect solution by reducing their gardens to something more manageable, at the same time freeing up a cash lump sum for their own retirement, or to help their families move forward.
